If you’ve never had to commission a translation before, you may not know where to start. That’s ok. There are a couple of things worth considering first:

• Does the whole text need to be translated? It will be cheaper if not.
• Is this the final version of the original text? It’s not always possible, but it is easier (and cheaper) for all concerned if this is the case.

Once you’ve got your text ready,

• please send me the French or German text which needs translating into English.
• I will send you a quote and suggested delivery date – please see how are translations charged for more on this.
• Once you have accepted the quote I will need some more information from you:
  • What is the purpose of the translation. It might be for information only or to be published on a website.
  • Who is the target audience of the translation? The original text might have been written for specialists in a given field, but the translation might be for non-specialists. I can tailor my translation to meet the needs of your audience.
  • Do you have any specific terminology or style that you would like me to use?
  • Finally, it is often helpful to have a contact person who I can work with in case of queries.
• Then you can relax whilst I get to work!
